Agricultural Drought Risk Assessment: A Spatial Analysis of Hazard, Exposure, and Vulnerability in Zacatecas, Mexico

Drought is one of the major threats to water and food security in many regions around world. The present study focuses on evaluation agricultural drought risk from an integrated perspective, that is, emphasizing combined role hazard, exposure, vulnerability drought. For this purpose, we used Mexican state Zacatecas as a case study. This most vulnerable adverse effects country. proposed method includes three stages: first, analyzed at municipal scale using FAO Agricultural Stress Index System (ASIS) its country version (Country-Level ASIS) also determined Hazard (DHI). Results showed 32% state’s municipalities are high very drought; these located mainly center north state, where 75.8% agriculture rainfed, 63.6% production units located, 67.4% population depends activity.
